How to Help

If you're like us, your digital life is one big, fast news feed. Some of this news is messed up. How to Help works in the news cycle to connect you with ways to do something about the day's big stories.

The Opening Salvo

The Opening Salvo

It was huge! The biggest ever! He made it happen!

Despite his hurt feelings about inaugural turnout, President Trump does get props for bringing so many people out to protest his election. Black Lives Matter and others led creative civil disobedience, and women and the people who respect them marched in DC and 600 other cities.

The pictures (especially from Antarctica) will make you feel better about the whole situation. Not to mention the signs: Keep your hands off my Pol-ussy • Ikea has better cabinets • We shall overcomb • I'll see you nice white ladies at the next Black Lives Matter march, right? • Thanks Trump, you turned me into an activist • Ex Marine, first protest • Real men don't grab • Free Melania • Grab em by the midterms • Hang in there Ruth • Our children are watching • So much to say, such a little sign

How to help keep that post-march high

Work is underway to encourage all the people who marched this weekend to keep doing so for the rights of all people threatened by the Trump presidency: people of color, immigrants, Muslims, the LGBT community, and others. We'll connect readers with those efforts.

Women's March organizers are hosting 10 actions for the first 100 days.

Also, if you visited DC this weekend and have a leftover MetroCard, you can send it to Martha's Table, a DC nonprofit that will ensure it gets used by a local family.
