The Statue of Liberty is having a very bad week.

In 1990, Congress created the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) program, to protect immigrant and refugee nationals of countries hard hit by armed conflict, environmental disasters, or other threats to safety.

More than 325,000 people have life-saving TPS protections.  But like every other immigration program in the Trump era, TPS too is now on the chopping block.

Today the White House announced an end to TPS for Haitians impacted by the 2010 earthquake.

This follows similarly cold-hearted announcements for Nicaraguans and Hondurans, and portends one for people from El Salvador, the largest community covered by TPS.
