The Best Way to Celebrate Moms This Year

The Best Way to Celebrate Moms This Year

Yesterday's creative Mother's Day celebrations were a good antidote for the times in which we live.

Our favorite: the Movement for Black Lives and affiliated groups hosted the National Mama's Bail Out, raising money to free as many mothers as possible who would have otherwise sat in a cell on Mother's Day simply because they couldn't afford bail.

MBL explained: "The Mama's Bail Out Day is rooted in the tradition of our enslaved ancestors who went to every length, including harnessing their collective resources, to purchase each other's freedom and keep their families together. This year, we are taking a stand against a money bail system that tears our families and punishes our mothers for being poor."

Also, get to know Mom's Rising, a group of moms working for things like paid family leave, flexible work options, affordable child care, wage parity, health reform, and more. Over the weekend Mom's Rising delivered thousands of little Statues of Liberty to Trump Administration officials, to remind them of ... well, the Statue of Liberty.
